6BC Botanical Garden
This visual identity project centers on 6BC Botanical Garden, a unique, community-run green space in the East Village of New York City.
Unlike most public parks, 6BC is fully maintained by local volunteers and neighbors who actively shape and care for the space. My design approach focused on capturing this collective spirit while exploring two central questions: What does it mean to be a garden that is tucked within an intimate urban neighborhood? And how can design organically invite more people to volunteer, not out of obligation but out of a genuine love for nature, gardening, and community?
Although small in size, 6BC Garden is lush with life. It is home to a wide variety of plants, flowers, trees, and even a treehouse. However, the garden only opens when members are present and actively tending to it. This means the more people involved, the more vibrant and accessible the space becomes. Each new member directly contributes to how alive and open the garden feels.

Visually, I wanted to express this collective care and cyclical growth. The logo repeats the letters “6BC” in a circular formation, with each repetition acting as a symbolic leaf. The centered composition represents how the garden is grounded in the community while radiating outward through shared effort. Depending on context, the logo can transform to a flower, a sun, or even a playful character. For example, when used as a sun, it features a smiling face made out of the “6BC” letters, echoing the circular system while also aligning with the garden’s child-friendly and family-oriented nature.
The typefaces Doughy, Monument Grotesk, and ABC Diatype Rounded blend softness and structure, reflecting the welcoming yet intentional energy of the space. Building from the core logo and typographic treatments, the identity expands into posters, signage, t-shirts, icons, and other materials designed to invite curiosity and involvement.
